March 10th News and Notes

Covid Protocols

Starting this Sunday, masks will be optional for those who are vaccinated.

Christmas in April

Christmas In April will be held this year at United Parish of Bowie on Saturday April 30th. There are many projects both inside and outside that can be addressed that day. The formal Christmas in April for PG County that we customarily participate in is being held this year but they are limiting the numbers and only conducting outside projects on the chosen residences. This was not a good fit for us so addressing the needs at UPB will give Members an opportunity to contribute their volunteer time closer to home. It is hoped that the PG program will return to normal by next year and we can resume our customary participation with them. In the meantime mark you calendars and start thinking of items you think should be added to the “to do list” for the 30th. Sign-ups and more info will be coming at a later time.

Bowie United for Peace

The Bowie Interfaith Coalition, in coordination with Bowie State University, is holding a “Bowie United for Peace” rally today in response to the recent bomb threats at Bowie State and the anti-Semitic literature that was distributed in Bowie.  It will be at Allen Pond at 4:30 this Sunday, March 13th.

Lenten Bible Study

During Lent, we will have a Monday night Bible study. We will be looking at the witnesses to the crucifixion.  You can join us here.

Holy Week

This year, we will be celebrating Maundy Thursday and Good Friday with Village Baptist Church.  Both churches will coordinate services with Maundy Thursday being at Village Baptist and Good Friday being at UPB.  More details will be coming.
Easter Baskets
The Mission and Service Committee is accepting Easter Baskets this year for their families in need.  We will provide the baskets.
If the congregation could please bring candy, pencils, puzzles, books, etc to fill the baskets, that would be greatly appreciated.
We’ll also be collecting gift cards to help out the adults as they shop for Easter.
Mars Hill

We are currently in conversation with Shadyside Presbyterian Church to see if our Mars Hill mission trip will happen this summer! This is a mission trip to Mars Hill, NC.  People 12 years and older go and rehabilitate homes during the week.  Some adults stay on campus and lead a children ministry for our children 11 and under.  Volunteers can do either! The mission trip will take place July 10-16. If you are interested or would like more information, please let Chris know!

Church Directory

We have a new Church Directory available.  You can access it here.

Electronic Sign

An anonymous donor has made a donation towards an electronic sign at the street.  We are putting together a team to explore what this might entail, how much it cost, and how to best utilize the donation.  If you are interested in helping out, please contact Diane Eades.

Tech Team

Ever dream of being a producer or a director?  Now is your chance!  We are looking for people to learn how to work the livestreaming camera during worship.  If you are interested in helping out, please contact Russ Doughty.

YouTube Channel

We are posting our virtual worship to our YouTube channel each week in case you miss worship –

If you are unable to join us in person, but would like to continue to make your tithe or offering, there are several ways to do so.  You can mail a check to the church.  You can give online through paypal   You can also set up a payment through your banks online bill pay feature.  Paypal charges the church approximately 3%, so please consider either consider giving through one of the other two ways or adding 3% to your offering to offset the fee.
