October 28th News and Notes

Thanksgiving

In the spirit of November and giving thanks, I want to know what you are thankful for!  Please film a short video telling me what you are thankful for by November 18th.  You can text it to 309-357-0132 or you can email it to ckdeacon@yahoo.com

Drive-in Communion Service

We will have another Drive-in communion service this Sunday, November 1st at 10:00.  It will be very similar to last month, more detailed instructions will be sent out tomorrow.  We will be collecting for the food pantry again.

Daylight Savings

Do not forget to “fall back” this Saturday night for Daylight Savings!

Trivia

We will meet for happy hour/trivia on November 18th at 7:00.  We have a great time in October and hope you will join us.

Celebration Sunday

Celebration Sunday will be Sunday, November 15th.  Join us as we pledge ourselves to the ministry and mission of UPB for 2021.

Food Pantry
The Mission and Service Committee will be collecting only gift cards this Thanksgiving and Christmas for the Bowie Food Pantry. They have decided not to collect any additional food or presents due to limited space as a result of restrictions from the pandemic.
Gift cards for THANKSGIVING should be for Grocery stores and for CHRISTMAS gift cards should be for stores that sell toys.

The Committe will be at the church on Wednesday November 18th from 10 to 11 and Wedneday December 16th from 10 to 11.
Feel free to include regular food donations on these two dates as well.

Giving

Several people have asked how they can continue to make their tithes and offerings while we are not meeting in person.  There are several ways.  You can mail a check to the church.  You can give online through paypal https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=KJTC62AUPNWCE&source=url   You can also set up a payment through your banks online bill pay feature.  Paypal charges the church approximately 3%, so please consider either consider giving through one of the other two ways or adding 3% to your offering to offset the fee.

Project

Chris am working on a project for worship.  If you could send Chris a brief (no more than 20-30 second video) of you answering the question “What does the United Parish of Bowie mean to you” by October 25th.  You can text it to 309-357-0132 or you can email it to ckdeacon@yahoo.com

Halloween Buckets

The Children, Youth, and Family Committee will be delivering Halloween Buckets to our families the last week in October.  We are asking for help from the congregation in providing items for these buckets. Suggestions include, but not limited to, candy, treats, glow sticks, Halloween stickers, or just any kind of fun Halloween item.
For those who are not comfortable with shopping and would like to make a monetary donation, checks should be made out to United Parish of Bowie, with Halloween Buckets on the memo line. Donations need to be at church by Friday, October 23.  Sue Kennedy will be at church from 10:00-11:00 that day to collect any items not already dropped ott.
We are looking at 15-16 families and 30+ kids, ranging in age from 2-17.   Amazon and Oriental Trading are possible places to order from.  Oriental Trading has a large number of Christian items.  If you have any questions, talk to Sue.
They will be delivered the afternoon of October 29th.  If you are interested in helping out, please contact Sue Kennedy or Diane Eades.
