March 4th News and Notes

Lenten Dinners

Lenten dinners will begin tonight, March 4th.  Please be here by 5:45 so we can begin eating promptly at 6:00.  We will have dinner together, watch a video from Adam Hamilton’s “The Walk” based on spiritual practices and then split into kids and adults for study.

Book Club

Robert Bidinotto, a local author, will be our guest on Friday, March 6, 2020 when we will discuss his book, “Bad Deeds”. This book, recommended to us by Bill Collins, is a vigilante crime thriller, the second of a trilogy series. We will meet at 7pm at the Barbato residence, 754 Pearson Point, Annapolis. Come to meet the author and have your book signed.

Mission Giving

The Shaw Community Center will be joining us in worship this Sunday for Mission Giving.  We will be taking up an offering for them.  If you would like to write a check, please make it out to UPB and we will write one check to them.

Beyonce Mass

The National Capital Presbytery is helping to host the Beyonce Mass, March 8th at the Kennedy Center at 6:00.  If anyone is interested in meeting for dinner and then going, please let Pastor Chris know.

“Join us as at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. for a groundbreaking worship service that uses the music and life of Beyoncé as a tool to cultivate an empowering conversation about Black women—their lives, their bodies, and their voices. Beyoncé Mass creates a space of story, scripture, and song that calls for the liberation of all people. ” It is curated by Rev.  Yolanda Norten and has gathered thousands of people in worship services from Southern California to Protugal.

Warm Nights

The Mission and Service Committee is coordinating  a Warm Nights with Village Baptist Church on Saturday, March 14, 2020.  The menu will be Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, bread and desserts.  Please sign up in the Narthex if you’d like to provide food and or help serve.   Drop off is at 6pm.

Easter Baskets

The Mission and Service Committee will be donating 15 Easter Baskets to the Bowie Food Pantry. We’ll be collecting items such as bubbles, pencils, Bible books, crayons, wrapped candy, coloring books, etc. Please leave them in the Narthex by April 5, 2020.
They’ll be delivered on Monday, April 6th.

Passing of the Peace

During the season of Lent, we will be adopting a new spiritual practice during worship.  Instead of passing the peace, we will take a few moments of silence to calm our minds and prepare our hearts for worship.
