April 18th News and Notes

LIFT is Almost Here!

We have been selected to be a pilot church for “LIFT” – Living in Faith Together.  This is an intergenerational Sunday School program designed for all ages – children and adult!  We will be testing it for four weeks, starting an April 22nd with a potluck after church!  For more information, see last week’s e-votional.  I hope adults and children alike will join us!

Christmas in April

Christmas in April is April 28th.  This is a longtime mission project of UPB where we spend one day working on and repairing a home for someone in need.  Please see Herb Sheppard for more information or you can sign up in the Narthex.

Spring Warm Nights

On  Saturday May 5th the Mission and Service committee will be partnering again with the Spring Warm Nights at All Saints Lutheran Church. This is Cinco de Mayo so any Mexican dish is welcomed as well as tacos, as we’ve done in the past. Please sign up in the Narthex for donated food items or if you plan to serve.

The drop off and serving time will be determined soon.

Church in the Park

Church in the Park will be early this year!  On May 6th, we will worship at Allen Pond and have a picnic following worship.  We are looking for people to help set up before worship.

Sermon Series

From now until Pentecost (May 20th), we will be looking at Post-Resurrection appearances of Jesus.  After Pentecost, we will be looking at the heroes of the Bible?  Who do you consider a hero from the Bible?  Email your answer to ckdeacon@yahoo.com

Do you speak a language other than English?  Would you be willing to play a small role in worship on May 20th?  If so, please let Chris know!

On June 16, from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M., we will co-host a Stitch-in with the Prayer Shawl Ministry of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church to knit and crochet chemo caps for a local chemotherapy clinic in Lanham.  We hope to make at least 25 hats.  Yarn, patterns and light refreshments will be provided.  The Stitch-in will take place in the Historic Rectory of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 13106 Annapolis Rd, Bowie, MD 20720.  Please bring size 7 or 8 straight or circular knitting needles and/or a size H or J crochet hook.

Donations to defray the cost of the yarn would be greatly appreciated; yarn to make one hat costs about $3.00..
