Figure it Out?
Rev. Cathi King
What’s the scenario?
Lateral thinking puzzles get us to think outside the box. It’s a squirt gun!, No. It’s a beverage dispenser gun! No. We’re stuck in our conventional wisdom until someone asks: Was the man thirsty? No.
Now we’re open to a whole new thought process.
The wisest men of Babylon couldn’t interpret the King’s dream. It wasn’t because they weren’t smart enough. They weren’t on the right frequency. What’s needed is a return to a deeper well of wisdom; to tune in to God’s frequency for clarity in the midst of confusion.
…so that you may understand the thoughts of your mind… That, according to Daniel, is the point of interpretation. This Advent season, may we be present to one another and tuned in to God’s deep wisdom. May we be courageous to speak the confusion that rattles around in our minds and hearts, patient to really listen to each other, and rather than leap to the land of conventional answers, may we seek only to clarify, making room for God’s light to illuminate a whole new thought process that we may figure it out together.
O, Master, grant that I may never seek so much to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love with all my soul. –Prayer of St. Francis
